- This morning was the first of the 5K's that I had penciled in on my calendar (on the right side of this page).
- Last night was the final Marathon Party and Awards Banquet.
- Later last night was the 'After Party' at Gina's.
The Bagelfest 5k! A moderately hilly first 2 miles, followed by one last mile of almost continuous downhill. The type of race designed for PR's.
I took it really easy at the banquet, mostly for driving purposes, but also because I wanted to run a good race today. After the banquet I headed home, grabbed my running gear, loaded Karma in the car and headed to Gina's.
Several hours (of holding a beer and/or margarita in my hand) later, I borrowed one of the three guest bedrooms and slept for 3 hours.
I got to the registration area at 7:15am; forty-five minutes before the 8am gun.
The more I walked around, the more I felt the hang over come on. There's no way i could run this 5K as I was nauseous just walking. So instead, I cheered on Trey which I had planned on doing all along. As an added bonus, Pudding Rob was there to run it too.
It was Trey's first ever race, and as he's been a fantastic support/cheer person over the last few years, I was very happy to be there and cheer him on the finish. I thought he did great. Congratulations Trey!
I was a little rougher in my cheering towards Rob, telling him to fight the lactic acids, run harder, push, kick, ruuuuuuunnnnn etc...
Granted he did all the work, but I'll go ahead and take credit for helping him shave 15 of the 45 or so seconds by which he PR'd! Go Rob!
Once they both finished, I got in my car, drove home, and slept for 4 more hours.
I just checked the Race results, and I can't help to think that if I'd taken it a bit easier the night before, I could have run, and had I hit my goal of a sub 20 min 5K, I would have won my age group.
But was the partying worth it? You betcha!

You should have drank more. Even I won an award for running a race drunk!
