Bad news:
There is very subtle bone marrow edema (edema = flow of serous fluid into the interstices of cells in tissue spaces or into body cavities.)
There is subtle deep soft tissue edema at the surface of the heel bone
There appears to be a bone contusion or stress reaction of the bone.
It could be a stress reaction of bone or bone marrow contusion.
Good news:
Elsewhere the regional bone marrow signal is normal.
All ligaments are intact.
The plantar fascia and the Achilles tendon are normal.
The various tendons crossing the ankle anteriorly, medially, and letrally, are intact.
The talar dome has a normal appearance with intact cartilage.
I do get to start test running on soft grass. I'll run tomorrow on the grass soccer field inside of a track and test it out.
