When the *%^# will it heal?

My heel is still hurting, and I’m starting to get depressed about it.

Today is day 21 since my last run, and I feel like a big fat lazy poop.

I had a little moment last week when it didn’t hurt at all. I really thought I’d be good to go real soon, but then, unsurprisingly, it still hurt.

Saturday was a cold day in Austin, and I felt like an 90 year old with my heel hurting because of cold weather.

My Dr. (in plain English) said that I have some sort of a bruise on the tip of the heel bone. It’s either the bone marrow, or the bone that has a contusion. But, because it’s getting better, he suggested to run 5 mins on grass, then do some heavy stretch work, then run 2 miles or so on grass and see how I fare. Definitely no running on hard surfaces like asphalt.

I took the dogs for a walk on the greenbelt on Sunday as well as on Monday, and both times, after about 20 mins of walking, i could feel a pain in the heel.

I was going to run yesterday on grass and test it out, but combining the pains I’ve been feeling with the rain outside, I decided to hold off a few more days. The long term goal is to be ready May 5th for the start of my Marathon training. I’ll take my dog for a trail walk again tomorrow and see if it gets any better.

Wiley, this is an incredibly sucky situation, sorry you're having to deal with it. I find that beer helps.

Buzz, I'm starting to think you could seriously use a dictionary, apparently in Spanish and English. Hate to state the obvious, but...

Even though you haven't been running at our Wed workouts, showing us all up with your incredible speed, it's been good to see you (and Karma!). Hang in there. Perhaps you need a bike or a swim??

Dealing with injury sucks. Everyone who runs long enough goes through it - it is the great leveler and the only thing my running has in common with the elites.

I'd tell you not to obsess over it or worry that you're getting fat and whatever, but you wouldn't listen anyway...
