On a personal observation*, i think it's silly that it's an iPod and a Phone and you can't use the songs in your iPod part as the ringtone of your phone.
Just for that reason alone, I've decided not to go stand in line at 4am to get my hands on an iPhone on Friday.
*personal as in, it's not part of the matrix, but I read that in one guy's write up.

That is pretty nuts. I thought the same thing when I heard that. I guess AT&T put an insane amount of pressure on Apple to keep the $3 a pop ringtone business alive. I'm skipping the iPhone because I don't think I'd want to stick it in my bike bag on a 50 mile ride :)
Its probably in the iTunes purchase agreement or something - you don't have the right to publically broadcast the music you download/ rip...
The three things that keep me from getting an iPhone would be
1/ cost
2/ crappy data rates (EDGE)
3/ lack of GPS
The maps demo was sort of embarassing - everything smooth, everything cool then the 'just type in where you are'
It screams for a decent GPS connection.
When it has GPS & 3G data rates, then I might well be interested. It looks slick.

I'm assuming you got one, since you wrote about activation issues, and I read about it in the paper.
So show some photos and write about it and don't ever let me touch it near a source of water.
