Today is August 28, which means I've had mine for 2 months now. Here are my impressions after a nice 60 day breaking-it-in period.
You've all seen the countless tv ads about it, the map thing etc, but it doesn't really explain what's going on. Maybe you've played with mine, or maybe I've given you a demo, or maybe you've played with someone else's, but if you haven't, here's my 60 day 'real world use-case'.
Imagine your phone, and imagine being able to put all your frequently called numbers in a favorites area so you can scroll to them faster. Imagine also being able to get a few voicemails, and seeing them as a list on your screen. You then click on the one you want to listen to, and can scroll forward or backward to fast forward it. No you don't have to listen to 4 messages to listen to the 5th one. Just click on the 5th one. Imagine being able to conference someone in with 1 button. Imagine being able to swap between two calls with 1 button. Imagine being able to conference both calls in 1 simple button. Imagine having a headphone with a button so you can answer your phone if it rings while you're listening to music or watching a movie. When you hang up, by clicking the button on the wire, it hangs up and you return to your music.
Imagine your iPod. Imagine that your iPod also has video capabilities. Imagine that your iPod also has a speaker so you don't need headphones. Enough said.
Imagine YouTube and being able to search for ANY youtube video, bookmark your favorite ones, and play them anywhere. Literally. Real Story: Hey Sally co-worker, Tim Armstrong's 'Into Action' song, I can't get it out of my head. Really? I've never heard of it. Hold on..." (20 seconds of looking it up in you tube) Poof! There's the video. "Sally, lets watch the video!" Sally said: "Wow! i can't believe we're watching the music video that you chose on your phone!"
Imagine Google Maps. You could bookmark places of interest. Imagine going on vacation to Key West like I did. Search for Key West. When you're in that area, choose satellite view or road map. Then, search for whatever. "Restaurant" Poof, push pins line up all restaurants in the area. Click on them, find one you like, click on it again. Imagine it then takes you to a quick page with the address to the place, the phone number, and URL to their website. Click on URL to launch FULL browser, not some cheesy text only browser. Click on the phone number and automatically call the place to make a reservation or ask them a question! Or, get directions to and from it. Turn by turn! Oh yes, list out all the turns like map quest. Did I mention it'll give you adresses and turn by turn details for a place in Scotland, or my parents house in Sweden? Also, Imagine clicking a button that will color code streets as green or red depending on traffic situation.
Imagine blackberry email, but without all the crazy clicks to do stuff.
Imagine a camera. Take pictures, and with one click, forward them to some via email, or make them your wallpaper of your phone. Heck, why not scroll through all your photos like a book.
Imagine a full Browser. Bookmarks. Zoom in, Zoom out, click on automatically hyper linked phone numbers to call the number on a website. Same thing with URLs.
Imagine text messages you can keep the logs, for each friend. Not a giant list you scroll through. Here, you see all the text messages like a conversation on the Instant Messenger you have at work.
Imagine other fun gadgets, Calendars, save-able Weather links and Stock Quotes.
Do it sound like I like my iPhone? Hmmm...
