Trail run produces new wild animal.

Met up with Jo Dee, Meredith, and Pete for two tours (5 miles each) of "Ken's Loop" this morning. I like this trail. Only the second time I've run it, but it's definitely a solid trail with plenty of hil climbs, and a rewarding, long and fun descent towards the finish.

Mer's back into serious training so that pace certainly wasn't a leisurely pace that we did last week. My legs felt great for the first loop, and for most of the second, but I must admit that I could really feel the last few climbs in my legs.

Highlight of the day, other than the very solid 10 mile workout was seeing a Tarantula on the trail. Mer led the way, jumped over it and got startled and kinda stopped, I followed quickly and bounced well over it, and let out a WOW, (not wow like wa-ow, but wow like woe-w.) and stopped, which was quickly followed by Jo Dee bouncing over it and stopping and then Pete. I'm just glad we left enough room for Jo Dee and Pete to get past him! He didn't seem to aggressive, but instead, seemed as startled as we were to have 4 giant jump over him on a quiet Sunday morning.

I end the week with 71 miles. Pretty happy about that. I'll shoot for 71 more this week, just not sure what combination of distances will get me there.

(now I also need to decide if I record the Sweden vs. Spain Euro2008 soccer game on Saturday, and skip the group run, and instead join Mer and a coupe of others in Bandera for 20+ miles on Saturday, or if I watch the Sweden game live. I seriously doubt anyone will tell me the score of the game before I get back home to watch it, but then again, I'm REALLY excited to watch the game, and not sure 20+ miles of hills is part of plan at this time in my training. We'll see. It does sound like loads of fun, though!)
