14.3 Miles of KICK ASS

There's a TV show on called "I survived a Japanese Game show." (On tonight at 8pm) I've always been intrigued with japanese humor, and over the years I'd see snippets of Japanese game shows where people do really silly things. MXC ran on Spike whihc was fantastic, and now WipeOut is the american version. After Wipeout, is "I survived a Japanese Game Show". It's a brainless TV show that for some reason makes me laugh. The Japanese host cracks me up, and the crowd fascinates me. And, they also will put subtitles for some of the stuff they say in Japanese(for us to follow along on the silly humor). Any way, one of the american contestants won an event a few weeks ago, and yelled out:
"I feel like a thousand Yen!!!!"
and on the screen, as he yells that, we the homeviewers saw a subtitle that read:
100,000 Yen = $10
That's what kept me laughing on my run today. Why, was I laughing???, because I felt like a Million Dollars out there today (but not like 10 yen!). I really felt like I could have run all day.

Maybe it was the cobwebs that we shook off our legs last week, maybe it was the fact that it wasn't so humid today, or maybe it was the 2-beers-I-drank-yesterday-by-7pm-that-had-me-zonked-out-by-8:30-on-the-ouch-and-sleeping-like-a-rock-at-9:15-in-bed. The alarm rang at 4:20, i pressed snooze, and slept again like a rock till 4:29.

Today on the schedule we had a repeat of last week's progressive/steady state run. (This is now our weekly Tuesday workout) As you may remember, last week, I opted for a 2-10-2 (2 mile warmup, 10 mile progressive, 2 mile cool down, with increments in pace every 2 mile throughout the 10 miler) I hit my times, but I was D.E.A.D. at the finish, and it took me 48 hours to really recover from the output. This week, i opted to do a 3-8-3. Larry, Bruce and Charles came along and we rocked it. (We had some loose goals, nothing we really even discussed, which I think was also a big difference as we ran by feel instead of by Garmin slavery)
Here are my splits:
1. 8:45
2. 8:22
3. 8:16
-------
4. 7:45 Personal Goal 7:40-7:50
5. 7:43
-------
6. 7:34 Personal Goal 7:20-7:30
7. 7:23
-------
8. 7:10 Personal Goal 7:10-7:20
9. 7:16
-------
10.6:45 Personal Goal 6:50-6:40
11.6:45
-------
12.7:40
13.7:30
14.7:40

Side note: Meredith does it again!!!
After my big water loss last week, I spoke to Meredith, and we made a slight adjustment to my electrolyte intake. Saturday's run went great, and today's run was obviously stellar. But more important was my hydration and water weight loss:

Last week: Crazy humid, old electrolyte strategy - I dropped 4.6lbs of water weight.
Today: Decently humid, slight electrolyte tweak - I dropped 1.2lbs of water weight.
(granted not he exact same workout, but the difference was still night and day)

Thanks, Mer!... and Good Luck on your Tahoe Rim Trail 50 Miler this weekend!!!

To you, I send a good luck....... MAJIDE!!! (MaahGeeDay!)

care to share your hydration secret? Or will that be giving away Mer's intellectual property? If so...no worries...

ps-> did I mention that I've been on a Japanese game show? It was for kids...back in the late 70's. My team wore these awesome avocado green polyester sweatsuits that had yellow and white stripes down the side. It was part of an exchange program while we were stationed at an air force base there. It rocked!
