Had a good start to the new phase in our training.
The menu for today was 4 mile warm up, 2 miles at MGP +10 sec (7:25ish), 2 miles MGP (7:15) then 2 miles HMGP (6:55ish).
I have big doubts about pace calculators, especially between the Half Marathon Goal Pace and full marathon.
Evidence I: I have run a HM much faster than what the calculator suggests I should be running.
Evidence II: I am very confident that I can run a shorter race like a 5K at a much faster pace than what it tells me. Especially after Friday's relay where I didn't push it, and ran faster than the calculator suggests my 5K pace should be.
Ok, back to the run.
4 mile warmup, somewhere around 8 min miles.
2 miles at MGP +10. the first one was 7 seconds to fast (i think i remember this correctly, but wasn't really paying attention, as it was irrelevant) the second was a tad slower, so they evened out to what I was looking for.
2 MGP miles - hit then dead on. 3 seconds off on the first, and the second was pretty much spot on. (this was the "money" leg for me. I wanted to be sure i could get back onto my MGP)
2 HMGP miles - 6:45 & 6:36 - perfectly fine with me, as I think my HMGP should be closer to a 6:35-40 than a 6:55.
All in all a good time.
My legs definitely felt more tired than in the past as I walked my dog 1 hour after the run.
