Tour The California International Marathon Course
KCRA 3's Deirdre Fitzpatrick, Dr. Steve Polansky Discuss Route
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The California International Marathon course runs from Folsom to downtown Sacramento, covering a wide variety of terrain.
In the video clips to the right, KCRA 3's Deirdre Fitzpatrick and 23-time CIM finisher Dr. Steve Polansky offer a quick tour.
The first leg offers some nice downhill stretches, a reason why some people call CIM the fastest course in the west.
The second part involves some hills and smart runners know when to conserve energy.
In part three, runners will begin to see crowds lining the course. At one spot, runners will even be tempted by roadside beer.
In the last portion, the street numbers slowly count down to the finish near the Capitol. These street numbers can be a friend or they can be cruel to those struggling in the final miles.
