I love hills!
Today was a chilly morning. 41 degrees (5C) is what my car read when i got out of it at the MoPac Rock. Social Director Sven, called for "Bundle Up!", so i threw on some gloves, a ski hat thing, and a long sleeve. (I don't wear tights)
The workout called for 2 Stratford loops. Out Stratford from Zilker Park hard (especially the uphills. Recover down red bud over to Lake Austin Blvd, then Tempo pace from L.A.B. to the Rock. Recover over the foot bridge, and off again for a second loop.
Legs didn't feel like they were getting the turnover they should be getting on hills. Especially on the second loop, probably something to do with the cold weather.
I started and stop my stopwatch at the same Posts/Exectrical boxes on both loops.
I mapped Stratford and it comes out to 1.77 miles.
First Stratford stretch: 12:44
Second Stratford stretch: 12:45
I mapped out L.A.B. and it came out to 1.3 miles.
First L.A.B stretch: 8:45
Second L.A.B stretch: 8:47
Total time loops were 15 seconds apart, as my second recovery down redbud was 12 seconds slower. (no big deal, as the first loop's recovery wasn't really a recovery run at all.) Suprisingly consistent, huh!?
I'm really happy with my results, as I thought for sure the 2nd sets would be much slower. Especially after figuring out the paces (using my handy dandy Run Calculator for the iPhone ~only~ 99 cents!:
- 12:45 mins for 1.77 miles ... 7:15/mile pace. (8mph) (7:15min/mile pace is a 3:10 marathon. We ran MGP on Stratford. Nice!)
- 8:45 for 1.3 miles is 6:46min/mile pace. (8.87mph) Very nice!
