The weather was almost perfect: low 50's, but it was very windy.
(evidenced by me lips today)
The wind SUCKED running all the way up shoal creek (5miles) to 183,
and up woodview for about 3.
But we powered through it, the 6 members of todays train did great!
(The 'long train' was missing Larry an Tausha an they were missed)
My legs felt really goo up until mile 29.5 when I slowed a bit and
that spelled D - O - O - M as I went into marathon race fatigue
feeling. I know I could have kept up the MGP I'd been holding for the
last 2 or 3 miles with Damon and Kam, but I felt instead like warming
down. A mistake, as immediately fatigue crept in and the legs went
heavy. Nothing major to worry about, just a good lesson learned to
not slow down on these super long runs. I'm actually glad I got tired
legs so I was reminded of why CAN happen on marathon day.
Final pace is around 7:55 for about a 4hr 6min run. I didn't carry a
GPS and don't stop my watches on waterstops, but that's pretty
accurate based on times by Damon who plowed on, and Bruce who finished
behind me.
We crossed the 26.2 marathon mark at 3:30, and I felt fantastic at
that point. Without wind in our face for almost 1/2 of the run, I
imagine even greater things!
So new distance record 30.33 miles, but not new running time
record(ran close to 4:30 on the trail with Ken earlier this year)
So, I know Ultras are traditionally run on Trails. My question is,
does 50km on a road count as kind of an ultra training run as I went
over 50km?
I certainly didn't have a bib on, I know that!
Time to go enjoy this 34 degree weather outside in warm warm clothing!

If you can do a 50K on the road at that pace you could finish Sunmart. That's actually much faster than my 50K PR, though in my defense my course was probably a bit tougher.
Nice job - by the time I crawled out of bed after being harrassed by the pets for an hour, it was warm out! I don't do cold!
Dude! Way to go! 50k?! Amazing. You are a running MACHINE!
