My car said 72 at Barton Springs, and the websites I reviewed said between 87 and 92% humidity. Blech.
That's just warm soup weather, so off with the shirt, and the cap. Then I thought: "Wait, maybe I should wear that cap, just in case." and grabbed it back out of the car and we took off.
There's a water stop 1 mile in, and I remember stopping and feeling like my head was going to broil from the hot weather + cap on, and my body was already drenched in sweat. Double blech.
At around mile 3.5, as we crossed under the Mopac Freeway eastbound on Enfield, the weather changed, just like in those hollywood tales where the clouds darken the skies and the wind kicks up something fierce as the evil character appears. I looked at my watch: 6:04am. In a matter of seconds, the cold front had arrived. The wind kicked up, leaves flew around, I almost choked on some large flying particles/pollen/piece of leaf/bug I swallowed, and the temperature dipped instantly 10, 15, then 20 degrees colder. We turned north up a side street and hit the northern winds straight on. It felt great and we all loved it!
Within minutes, the wind brought sprinkles, then rain drops, then giant water drops that almost felt like hail for a while.
We continued our free running route, deciding to take lefts and rights wherever the nicer houses seemed to be, stopped for a water and bathroom break at Burger King on 38th, and then headed straight home down Lamar to the Pfluegger pedestrian bridge.
It was pretty cool to experience the cold front like that, except for some reason, my hands, especially my fingers froze up real bad. They were sooo cold, my fingers were aching and my whole hands felt like they had pins and needles and were itching like crazy. The rest of the body, felt nice and cool, but man oh man, my hands were in bad shape. I haven't experienced that before, sure was glad to crank the heater in the car, then hop in a hot water shower to thaw them out. Weird stuff.
All in all, a great run, since it was a rain run, and I love me a good rain run! I'm just glad I listened to my gut instinct and brought my cap along for the ride.
Add 10 more to the pile.
Happy running!
