we belonged to a Golf club that also had 6 hard court tennis courts.
I played and/or took lessons from about 5-11. I then moved to France
and played and/or took lessons probably for another 1 or 2 years on
clay courts. I eventually quit because the French club I trained with
pretty much sucked. They didn't really care much and I was never able
to build up any friends.
I played with old wooden Björn Borg Donnay raquets. I had two of them.
I LOVED THOSE RAQUETS!
While here in Sweden after spending most of the day out and about,
we'd return around 3-5 or so, and I popped on the French Open that at
times went till 9:30! (Andy Roddick was NOT happy they didn't stop for
darkness).
I'm really excited a new Swede has hit the scene with a fantastic
forehand.. Robin Söderling knocked out Nadal then Davydenko then beat
another guy to now face the giant Federer on Sunday morning. You can
bet Ill be watching, so feel free to stop by! Wear blue and yellow!
Anyway, all this Tennis watching has relit by interest for the sport
and I really think I'm going to seek out people to hop on the court
with. I'll be a bit rusty at first, but it should take more than 2 or
3 times to get my ground strokes back. My old lethal serve and volley
- John McEnroe style.. It may take a little longer!
I do have a new raquet, probably 10 Year old raquet I bought to play a
few times with friends, but most importantly it's the modern type, and
it will do, so you won't have to be embarrassed when I walk onto the
court with ya.
My running coach says I could use some crosstraining on my off days...
so what do you say? Can I join you on your next outing? (I'm dead
serious)
I'll supply new balls for a while!

I stopped playing tennis when I started running seriously, and recently I've really been missing it. Haven't been on a court in a couple years but I might take you up on game or two.
I learned on the old style wooden rackets too. My parents still have a couple of them. Brings back the memories every time I see them.
Mike! The noys and I just started tennis this past Friday! How funny is that. I have to tell you, hitting the ball with that racket feels soooooooooooooooooo goooooood! Go for it!
