Friday i ran a little fun run with karma and also taught him hw to look at fish. He then went into the water and around the rocks we were standing on, trying to outflank the fish? Not sure what he was thinking, since he won't stick his head under water anyway! too funny.
Last Tuesday I ran 10 miles on the road, and i didn't enjoy it one bit.
Today, I ran 16 miles and I really enjoyed it. I thought I was done by mile 6, as I felt tired, and my legs felt overworked from the now foreign concept of quickturnover, but after about an hour, we hit the hills, and I fell in love again. Probably also because I wasn't running with a group of guys whose pace was way to quick for me on my first day back.
Not to mention, Rogue treated me to a route that included running up Mt Bonnell to welcome me back, and it didn't disappoint. I got even more excited when I saw that the route included Balcones, but then I realized I had misread!
All the hills we ran today felt super easy to climb. Pretty cool how trail running makes hills on asphalt seem like child's play even though I didn't push past 75% of effort... I think we'll save that horsepower for later on in the season. ; )
Only probelm with this run is it REALLY complicates issues in my brain. I was pretty much convinced that I'd focus on trail running and just run some "Maintenance" toads runs, but since I had so much fun today, i may have to rethink that.
I think i've figured out my training races leading up to Bandera 100km in Jan too.
Looks like:
1, 2 or all three 60km night runs in August for Capt'n Carls Dark Side Series.
Then I'll push the endurance even more to run either:
50 miles at Palo Duro on Oct 17, or
50 miles at Cactus Rose on Oct 31
or maybe both, or decrease to 50km at Palo Duro then 50 mile at Cactus.
Then a few looong training runs in November around the area, culminating in the HCTR Intergalactic Bunmart in early December as my last or second to last real long test run before the big day in early January.
I can't wait!
Then we say adieu to the trails, install some afterburners, and go run a 2:55-2:59 in Boston in April.
P.S. Brownie (JT), is absolutely knocking the socks off the Hardrock 100miler this year. It's been a treat to follow him here all day yesterday and today. (last name Teisher) I'm sooooo friggin' excited for him! He put in the hard training this spring and more than deserves to shatter last years time by many many hours. (he's not done yet, but as of 3 hours ago, he only needed 18 more miles! GO BROWNIE, GO!
