Yep. I know exactly why this silicon valley californians living in San
Jose/Milpitas area visit Austin and choose to stay.
I just spent the day in a factory just south of San Jose for my job,
so I got to go 25 mins south from the airport, through downtown and
south toward the suburbs, on the highway and then back up again to our
hotel near the aeropuerto.
I am NOT impressed. I would never choose this place as my home based
on what I saw. This photo is pretty much the most scenic view you
get. The downtown had no character that I could see, and the
neighborhoods we drove by looked like a cookie cutter excel
spereadsheets on flat lands. I'm sure there are prettier areas, but
overall, this place has no appeal to me, and it was dry as all get out
EVERYWHERE except in the business parks where lanscaping and
sprinklers keep the grass on the sidewalks green.
Austin may be drying up this summer, but at least we have rolling
hills full of green Cedars and Oak trees.
I'm not hating, just giving my opinion on this place.
