Local sports writer Kirk Bohls wrote this:
"Dan Buckner, the Texas flex end who was arrested for criminal trespassing and resisting arrest a week ago and somehow decided to transfer before lunch the next day, has relocated to Arizona. He has to sit out a season to re-establish his eligibility, which strikes me as unfair for athletes. Coaches can leave any time they want, even at midseason (hello, Bob Knight), but players have to sit out an entire season as a transfer. If a player is dismissed from the team as it seems clear he was at Texas, he should be eligible immediately at his new school."
I couldn't agree more. If a coach leaves on his own, he should have to sit out a year. If he is "fired/let go/removed", then he shouldn't have to sit out a full year. Same should be the rule for players.
Too bad there are too many crusty old men sitting in the NCAA offices clenching a piece of coal up their butts trying to tum it into a diamond, unwilling to be forward-thinking.
