"Tapped"

I recently watched a really good documentary called "Tapped". It is short, a little over an hour long, but extremely powerful, and makes you strongly consider ending your consumption of water via "bottled water". I'd already decreased my purchases dramatically in the past, but this was an even bigger eye-opener.

Here are some of the facts I learned about bottled water vs. Tap water to peak your interest:
- only 20% of all plastic is recycled in the US.
- tap water quality is regulated, and is tested 300 times a month if you live in a city under 3 million. 400 times a month for over 3 million. (or maybe she said 1million?)
- Bottled water has no testing regulations and it's the bottlers that test and display this detail if they so choose.
- brands from Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Nestle are the largest. Many of these, simply grab tap water, that you essentially get for free, and bottle it, selling it to you for up to 4000% profit.
- many of these bottling plants operate in small towns where water restrictions are imposed on the population, yet the bottler takes all they want. Even during times of sever drought.
- many of the world's fish populations will die from eating the broken up plastic pieces from plastic bottles that end up some way or another in the ocean.
- the FDA has made huge mistakes in their assessment of the dangers of plastic bottles but is too embarrassed to publicly state their mistakes.
- pregnant women are multiplying the risk of birth defects by drinking bottled water.
- don't get me started on what happens to the water if you leave said water bottles in the sun in your car. Oye.

If you're in the US and have a Netflix account, you can watch it on instant watch right away

here's the trailer.

Do yourself a big favor and start carrying your own bottle and simply refill it with tap water. Maybe buy a Brita filter if you want a little bit cleaner taste.
