I recently discovered a band from Iceland called Sigur Ros. I'll see them in August at Lollapalooza, and can't wait.
Below is my favorite song of theirs: Glosoli (which means Glowing Sun).
The video fits the song to perfection, and in my opinion is brilliant.
If you like Bon Iver, you'll like Sigur Ros.
If you don't like Bon Iver, then don't waste your time.
From an article:
Sigur Rós have have cut a new album,Valtari, their first in four years. The English translation of the word is “steamroller,” which is apt because, just like everything this group does, it will flatten your soul with its soaring beauty. You think that last bit’s hyperbole, that Sigur Rós are mostly boring and you can’t understand their dumb Hopelandic gibberish anyway, and there was a time when we would’ve agreed with you. But then we saw them live, and—this is going to sound mad goofy—it didsomething to us. People in the crowd were hugging while the band played. We saw grown men with tears streaming down their faces. Everyone was acting like they were on E, like they were at some slow-baked rave held on the world’s most gorgeous dancefloor on a planet that has never seen war. We walked in cynics and walked out Lovers. It was grand.
