Over the last month, much has happened in my running life.
I finished my 5k/10k program, and the end of that program entailed racing in a 5kmrace and a 10km race to try and get PRs (Personal Record).
5K Bun Run
Well, I ran the Bun Run, and didn’t do as well as I would have liked.
I really wanted to run a 5k(3.1miles) under 20 mins, but I failed. After about 2.5 miles, my legs just gave out, I still felt strong mentally, but my legs just couldn’t keep the magical 6:25 pace going, and I finished at 20mins 33secondsand a pace of 6:35min/mile. I am determined to run another 5K and do better. Results: http://www.doitsports.com/newresults3/client/19275_26358_2006.html
10K Texas RoundUp
The 10K that we(my group) ran, was called the Texas Roundup. A race that the Governor has started to try and get people in Texas to do more exercise. (Is it working? I dunno) Anyway, my goals was to finish under 45 mins for the 10k (6.2 miles) which would be a pace of7min 11 seconds per mile. It was rough. With 1.5 miles to go, I was 43 seconds off my pace and was feeling tired, but I was determined to do better. It’s amazing the things you think about and help you run faster. In any case, today, Tim’s popular saying: "Don’t let the Terrorists win" helped a lot. The thought of Marla being there to cheer me on, had me run even harder. I was able to shave off the lost time, and come in 12 seconds under 45 mins! 7min 9sec pace! http://www.doitsports.com/newresults3/client/43435_153438_2006.html
A.R.C. Daisy 5K
As mentioned before, I decided I needed to redeem my poor showing at the Bun Run 5k, and attempt to clear 20 mins once again. Well, it was tough, and I failed again. My legs just gave out with about 600 meters to go.
I did place first in my age group!!! Final time 20min 14 seconds, and a pace of 6min 29secs/mile. Next time, I’ll do 19:59! I know I will!
Congress Avenue Mile
This past Saturday, May 20, it was time for the Congress Avenue Mile. Yep! Just one slightly downhill mile to the lake starting at the steps of the capital. I didn’t really know how to run it, but it was a fun time! I ended up running it in 5min 30secs. I had tons of energy left at the finish, so I can’t wait to do it again next year, as I know I can shave a minimum of 20 seconds off that time by running a smarter race.
Oh, I can’t forget the end of program PRty Mike hosted. It was an event to remember!
