Murphy practices Law in Chicago

I made it a point to bring my running stuff with me on a business trip so I can go check out the sights before my meeting. The weather when we arrive in Chicago is a scorching 100 degrees with not a cloud in the sky, so I got excited about my run.

Note: It’s hot there, and the natives are all complaining about how hot it is; rolling blackouts throughout the city, and Air Conditioning isn’t living up to Texas standards.

Sunrise in the Windy City is scheduled for just before 6am, so I coordinate to meet up with a local friend at 6, and go for an hour run. 7 miles should be plenty to check out the Lakefront .
As we head to dinner, the clouds roll in, and it doesn’t stop raining. Cats, Dogs, Squirrels, Aardvarks, we’re talking BIG TIME RAIN.

The rain subsides as we head back to our hotel. A busy baseball day the evening prior has me ready to jump into bed at 9:30pm. Quick call to the concierge and wake up call is set for 5:40am.

Next morning, before the wake up call, I can already hear the thunder. I head to WGN’s website and check out the radar… yellows and red rain all over Chicago. My friend calls within minutes and we both agree to cancel. There’s something about running by the water with lightning in the air that doesn’t quite do it for me / us.

So I got to hang out in a very crowded gym, and run 6.5 miles on a treadmill instead.
The only saving grace... the treadmill had a TV with the "USA" channel, and we all know what’s on USA in the mornings: TV HEAVEN!!

Gloomy grey view from the room at 7:45AM.
