* * * 'SFAA' is 'Scenes From An Airport'. Everyone knows a "road warrior", or at minimum, is familiar with the concept. The strong-willed business man, that spends more time in the seat of a plane, than sleeping in their own bed.
I know one, and these are his stories. He's my guest writer.* * *
DFW… I am at the rush hour of DFW. Monday morning at 7:30 and there is hardly anyone here. I literally walked up to Starbucks and ordered with no line. Austin was busy, so whats the deal. I think it may be Columbus day, but I am not certain.
When I was in high school I was a long haired rocker. The guy sitting across from me apparently found my clothes in a consignment shop. Metallica hat, Headbangers Ball T-shirt, black shorts and black socks AND black shoes. He has not graduated to the world of MP3 players and is jamming to a portable CD player. He would be truly disgusted that my MP3 player has just looped through Lucida Williams, the Cars, and now John Mayer. I am ashamed. It is actually very odd, because on the "random" setting, the odds are very good that I'll hit a Metallica, Iron Maiden, Queensryche, Tool, or maybe even a Ratt song pretty frequently.
The sun has now come up and my plane is here. The odds are high for an on-time departure. I am escatic to see several Oklahoma Sooner fans walking by. They did a good job of hiding the fact they are Sooners, but it was impossible. They just did not pack enough non-Sooner gear to disguise themselves. If they would have won on Saturday then they may have arrived at DFW in more Crimson than is humanly possible to wear, but there are only highlights of it today.
Wow, my MP3 player must be trying to make me feel bad this morning…a U2 song that unbelievably mellow. I am resisting the temptation to fast forward…I consider it bad form. If the song isnt good enough to listen to on random then it shouldn't be on my player. For some reason I'm feeling the need to pull out an old picture of me in the later 80's or 90's and show this guy.
Now I am impressed… he pulled out the Sony PSP. A friend of mine let me play Madden on the PSP on a flight from Chicago and it is awesome. Better than any home game console I ever owned. That being said I have not bought a console in the last 8+ years... Ahh, there it is... my MP3 player picked Metallica.
