my travel day to mexico city where I'm spending Xmas sucked.
get up at 4am, because I decided I would pack the mornign of. (i'm not even a rookie traveler, so i'm not quite sure how I came up with that ridiculous idea.)
Stood in line for 1.5 hours to check in at ABIA. Almost missed my flight, but a miracle came my way. My flight was delayed 15 mins, so they let me check-in, and...
Workout Run #1: I ran about a 400 at 5k pace to gate 17. Get on the plane, wait for 20 mins...
"Ladies and Gentlemen this is your captain speaking... we have an electrical problem and everyone must deboard as regulations prevent us from pulling some wires with passengers on board.
30 mins and a shoe shine later, back on the plane. "Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. DFW is shut down due to weather, so we will sit on this tarmac for 30 more minutes without AC."
Land at DFW at 11:15am, connecting (international) flight 11:55. uh oh, this will be close. "Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your captain speaking, a different plane is using our assigned gate, so we're going to sit on this tarmac for 15 mins."
* At this point, it's 11:40, and I needed a gun. I'm in row 31 of 32. Lady in row 30, who apparently is Copernicus' reincarnation, as she thinks the planets and sun all revolve around her says to the flight attendant: "Could you announce on the loudspeaker that my husband and I nee to get off first, to try and catch our connection to Newark" I bit my lip hard. I, and the 4 people headed to Frankfurt and/or Tokyo sitting around almost had a field day with her. Needles to say the flight attendant just looked at her and said: "I'm sorry, there's nothing i can do about that." (how does someone even think that would work?!?!
Run workout #2 - 1000m at 5k with 50 meter recoveries twice. (i had a heavy carry on, give me a break) Arrive at D-28 : "Have you started boarding?" No sir, we're delayed 15 minutes to 12:10. Son of a ______! I'm on the plane!!!
15 minutes One hour later we bfinaly oard and land in Mexico having made up 25 minutes in the air.
One hour in line for customs + wait for baggage, and we're finally out the door so we can sit in Mexico city rush hour traffic for 2.5 hours.
