This part removed by author. To negative to start the year off!
...2am.. Then the fun began. I put some food on the stove, and woke up 3 hours later at 4:45am to an apartment filled with smoke, an alarm clock ringing, which I then figured out was my Fire Alarm blaring, and two dogs scared shitless. I opened every window and then the door to let air in, and the dogs took off running as they were so scared of what was going on. (they came back)
I tell you what, i'm happy i got a crazy idea to boil up 2 artichokes, and not cook up something flammable. I boiled right through all the water, and all that's left of the artichokes are two plum-sized, charred balls at the bottom of the pan.
Buy Calphalon, the pot is not ruined!
Anyway, my apartment now stinks like ass, as I sit here and wonder what I was thinking last night, and how i'm going to rid myself of this terrible stench. All the windows are open, but it's 48 degrees outside, so i'm getting a little cold. Maybe some socks will help.

Did you say smoke damage? Guess what, I can help!
In regards to the initial part of your post, you will get through this. Your "no shortage of friends" will see to that. It was great to see you last night.
¡Tenga cuidado en la cocina! :)
Estoy contento que estás seguro... y los perros también. Pobrecitos...
¡Seamos feliz por el año nuevo! :)
okay, Mike - the pizza is a good way to start the new year. the burned artichoke fire hazard - not so much. happy new year anyway.
Happy new year Mike! Good to hear you didn't burn your place down. Who the hell cooks artichokes at 2am new years day? That sounds a bit gourmet!
What is New Year's Eve without an attempt to burn down your apartment?
Happy New Years!!
Happy New Year! So how's the smell today ?
I had artichoke dip at the party, ya know.
Also, I've done this before. People like you and me are why some dude invented Hot Pockets.
