Blanco County Ranching
As I stated in the last post on Friday I went to a friend’s ranch.
A friend at work organized an outing for a bumch of us guys to go out and spend a night at his ranch. I guess he sold it to management as a team builder, but sold it to us, as a chance to go to guy tings with the guys.
8 of us took him up on the offer, and we left at 3pm.
After a 90 minute drive that included 2 pit stops to buy more beer, and then sausage, we pulled up onto his ranch.
First we went down to the pond he has, a pond about the size of 6 pizza huts. There, we had 3 fishing rods and Mark brought some worms so we got to fishin’.
We also had some highpowered beebee guns which some of the guys shot beer cans with.
After a while, everyone but Mark and I went down to the truck, pulled out the shotguns, the clay pidgeons and started shooting. I’m not much of a shooter as I’m definitely not the hunting type, so I was glad to see that the option to hang at the pond and fish was an option. I grew up in cities. I never had a chance to start liking guns, and I just don't like it. They shot and shot and yelled and hollered, while Mark and I had our own little fishing contest.
I took the lead 1-0, then 2-0, but that’s when Mark warmed up, he quickly caught up, then took the lead 3-2, then 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 to 2. I then caught a few more, but at the end of the day, it was Mark 14, Mike 5; with Mark catching all the keepers. He cooked up the 3 keeper catfish later in the night which turned out to be quite tasty.
When it got too dark to fish, we rejoined the other guys at the house for dinner.
A man’s dinner. You know, sausage wraps, burgers, chips and salsa, catfish, and beer.
No one thought of bringing water bottles, but I had thrown 4 1/2 liter bottles in my backpack. I guess that’s the runner in me.
After dinner, Brad Will and I went on an adventure to the nearest store (10 miles) to buy more beer, as we felt it was apparent that we wouldn’t have enough. Not amny others agreed, but we would end up proving them wrong.
Upon our return, the guys had wrapped up their song making sessions with the gutars some had brought, which again, I was happy to miss out on, as I’m not in to Karaoke.
Time for Poker. What else is there to say other than, I won $55 and Brad won $55.
Todd pulled up with his world war 2 looking green ranch jeep, and 4 of us piled in and went driving around in the dark looking for wildlife. 2 hours later we got back. We put 57 miles on the jeep.
Spent the rest of the night building a bonfire, drinking beer at the bonfire, and eventually pulled up a sleeping bag next to the fire at 4:30am to sleep for a few hours, before it was time to get up at 8:30.
All in all, a fun fun time, but I paid for it on Saturday by sleeping almost all day long.
Probably not the most exciting of stories, but it was fun. We may do it again in June when the pool is completed.
