I inherited a bike about 6 years ago from a guy that moved to San Antonio. The bike has just been sitting there, and it almost mistakenly got sold in a garage sale. I did use it one time to ride around downtown on New Year's eve, but other than that, it's been dormant.
I just went outside to check it out, so i could find the best matching bike on Marin's site. I also inspected it and have noticed that:
- The tires are flat
- The chain is rusty,
- There are cobwebs on the handle bars and brake/gearshift thing-a-ma-bobbies
- The seat is hard. Oh so hard.
- The brakes seem to work, but undoubteldy need new cabling
I'm thinking I may start lugging it around so I can ride it with Ostrich around town and such. Maybe pub run's when i can't run.
So how much is it going to run me if I decide to:
1) get a full tune up - replace brake cables, replace rusty chain etc...
2) get just a tune up to fix flats and oil chain
3) buy a good lock
By the way: No, my ass on that bike will never go on the autobahn, or veloway or whatever else you guys might want to plan around my new bike.

$100 to get someone else to fix it for you.
a lot less to just do it yourself.
Fixing flats and lubing a chain is simple. The tires probably just need some air anyway. The chain can be soaked/ scrubbed and generally fixed easily. Total cost about $10 of parts and some time/ learning.
Locks are kinda frustrating for bikes. The really really expensive ones can be broken with the top of a pen. A chain and a decent padlock is better than the 'sold for bikes' locks.
Btw, this is Gordon but I can't be bothered re-logging in. If you want help doing this, let me know.
I had my bike tuned up at BSS for $40.
That being said, if the bike is crappy you can't expect too much out of it.
Mine is a beater, the chain rings are missing teeth so the chain skips under load, which is horribly annoying on hills.
Still, I love riding my bike around Austin. Earth loves it too.
Miguel,
Thad moved to Cedar Park and not San Antonio. It almost got sold because I inherited and didn't want it.
I have lube and what not and know how to fix up a bike. Feel free to seek assistance from a girl.
Where is your Maze review? That is what I came seeking.
