It’s 7:22am, and I just got back from running the race course for the 1st Annual Blue Jackets Mother******’s Day 2.47mile 5K, produced by WLRP(Wiley & Lulu Racing Productions)
Let me tell you, holy cow is this going to be great fun!
There are up hills and down hills, flat dirt areas, flat rocky areas, cedar tree covered areas, wooded zig zag areas, you run along the creek’s edge, you run what I would describe as a BMX (dirt bike) course, you also have straight away sprint areas, and well, all in all, this is going to be great!
There are 7 water crossings per loop on the course. All jumpable. (Depending on the weather next week, those may dwindle down to 3 or 4.)
Play by play:
We'll start the race off with a nice and wide 30 yard straightaway so the over-adrenalined ones can jockey for positions before they hit a one man wide trail, then it opens back up for more jockeying-ability for about 80 yards before you hit the real trails. This is where the fun begins, immediately you descend towards the biggest water crossing followed by the longest uphill in the race. It lasts about 50 yards and is straight. (not too steep) Passing could happen here too. You then hit narrower zigzags, and potentiall 'slippery when wet' areas before you again descend down a zig zagging trail jumping over a another small dry/wet creek. Before you know it, you're taking a hard right and begin your return towards the start. This next stretch is full of little water crossings, sparsely and densely wooded zig-zaggy areas, one-man-wide trails, three-man-wide areas, and what I describe as a quarter mile bmx course. You'll eventually hit one last nasty little 20 foot climb where the bad asses will separate themselves from the whimps, and then run a flat hundred yards or so to the start of the 2nd loop so you can try for negative splits.
My 5K records is a 19:49, and I ran this at a hard pace today in 18:52 total. (9:22 first loop) So as you can see, yes, it is shorter than a 5K coming in a 2.47miles, but, it’ll take you almost as long.
This is gearing up to be a great race, and if you come out and dont' have fun, i'll buy you a beer at the next happy hour!
Granted there will be a small hand full of competitive people, but all in all, this will be a great event even for non speedsters, and eventhough it's a loop, it's mathematically impossible for anyone to get lapped unless you plan on going slower than a 18min mile!
I know this will all sound biased, but this is honestly a can't miss one-of-a-kind unofficial race, that will be a heck of a lot of fun!!
Bst of all, you'll be done and home by 10am so you're wife can't get mad if you start telling her about it in advance! Lulu and I hope you can make it!

The tracking makes it look like you took a GPS with you to the pub run. Nice and straight at the start, getting progressively more erratic and zig-zaggy on the way back. Nice.
