20 miles went well

I ran 20 miles yesterday.
The group started off at a pretty fast pace, moving from 8 min/mile
down to 7:15/mile after the second one. We held that pace for a
while, until mile 7ish where I decided it was too quick for me and let
them run away.
Afterall, why run faster than marathon pace for what was to be an easy
20.

Eventually I was on my own cruising along to my tunes and the pace
picked up.

I ended up running the 20 miles in 2 hours and 30 minutes, and another
10 minutes or so in water stops. That translates to an average of
7:30 pace (give or take) which is 6 seconds slower than my goal of a
3:15 marathon.

The best news is, I had no need for a nature break, and my new
approach of not taking hammergels (running food) as often as I usually
do. Usually I eat one every 45mins to an hour on an easy run, but
this time I took one at mile 10, and one at 15. Before I'd take 4 or
5 on a twenty miler. Nice!

I'm taking Sunday off, then back to 10 miles on Monday.

hey..if you were taking one gel every hour on a 20-miler and doing it in 2.5 hrs...why were you taking 4 or 5 gels??
