A week of Trail Runs was just what the doctor ordered.

Today is day 13 since the big ugly. I didn’t run the entire week upon returning from Chicago, wanting to list my shoes for sale on Craigslist instead. But, I resisted the temptation of selling them and gave some time.

Last Sunday, I met up with Jodie and Tony for a Greenbelt run. I didn’t set the stopwatch, I didn’t even look at my watch until we had finished. It was a nice change. I can’t remember the last time I had run without either hitting my lap button to record my splits, OR, keeping my upcoming marathon in the back of my mind, and taking things easy during morning trail runs. Saturday, I just forgot everything and ran. There were supposed to be more of us running, but for different reasons, only 3 of us were ready to go at the start of the journey; A nice run up over the hills in the greenbelt and down to Barton Creek. From there, we ran along side of the creek for an hour and a half, for a total of right around 10 miles. A few water almost waist high water crossings kept us cool and refreshed. Jodie and I then went and soaked at Barton Springs Pool, while we waited for Tony to finish up. A great great run. Just what the doctor ordered. 10 miles
On Monday, Karma and I met Kerry for a headlamp greenbelt run. The run was good too. We ran down to the creek and then around and up again. It was an hour of greenbelt fun in the dark. It was once again, refreshing to run without a care in the world of any training. 4 miles

Tuesday, I had intentions to go return to Performance Project for a track workout, but mentally, it just wasn’t meant to be. I couldn’t stomach the idea of trying to hit specific times while running around a track again after two fun trail runs.

Wednesday, Karma and I met up with Kerry and Brad at 6am to run a headlamp greenbelt run again. Brad has finally bought a headlamp, so he’s free to not run right behind me to see where he’s going. The sun rises at 7:30am these days, so I’m not exaggerating when I say that all you see during these morning runs is whatever the headlamp can light up for you. Even Karma stays about 15 to 20 feet in front of me so the light shows him the way. Had my marathon been on Wednesday morning, I would already have my Boston flight booked. My legs were light as feathers. The hills felt like flat ground, and the flat ground felt like down hills. Easily the best run I’ve had since my South Austin Ramble 22 miler when I finished off the run with a few sub 7 mins miles. I took off on the last ½ mile, and was flying on the trails. Karma was obviously feeling good too, because he gladly sprinted along with me! 5miles

On Thursday Performance Project had a day off, so a late decision with Kerry the night before had us meeting at 5:45am for yet another headlamp trail run. Thursday would be different. We ran down to the dam, then crossed over, and ran over to the Hill Of Life. We ran up the hill of life, down the side trails, and then jumped in the creek to cool off. We then ran back up over the hills to end a very hilly trail workout. 5 miles

Total fun trail miles : 24
