On August 6, 1985 (yes i remember the date), I saw The Cure for the first time in Frejus France when i lived there. I was 13 years old and went with my friend Pierre. It was fantastic. The Cure was at the peak of their career, it was The Head on the Door tour, and I had a giant poster of Robert Smith on my wall for years:

Robert Smith cut his hair off for that summer, and sported a short short maybe 1 inch long haircut throughout. I still remember how rumors were flying over his apparent hair cut, and they turned out to be true.
That concert was fantastic, just 4 guys, Robert Smith, Porl Thompson, Simon Gallup, and Lol Tolhurst.
They played the entire Head on the Tour Album in addition to other great songs like Killing and Arab, Push, Primary, The hanging Garden, Charlotte Sometimes, A forest, 10:15 staurday night, and of course Boys don't Cry.
I was never the one to walk around in all black clothes, but I still enjoyed them highly. I owned everyone of their tapes (yes tapes), and even joined their British based fan club, playing the premium as a France address.
The following year they released a compilation album*; Seriously, was there ever a better compilation album that Standing on the beach released in the world? I don't think so. Nothing beats this lineup!
"Killing an Arab"
"Boys Don't Cry"
"Jumping Someone Else's Train"
"A Forest"
"Primary"
"Charlotte Sometimes"
"The Hanging Garden"
"Let's Go to Bed"
"The Walk"
"The Lovecats"
"The Caterpillar"
"In Between Days"
"Close to Me"
The Cure became more and more popular throughout the years, and came out with additional successful albums, such as the highly anticipated Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me album (after STOTB* compilation) which had great songs like Just Like heaven, Catch, How beautiful you are, and of course, HOT! HOT! HOT!.
Love Song, Pictures of You, Fascination Street, Why can't I be you, would also be huge hits, and The Cure would go on to become a legendary band.
An now, 23 years later I get to see them again! I payed a pretty penny for a (secondary market) ticket to the show (as I ridiculously forgot to buy them went on sale), but I don't care. There is no way I'm missing this show. No way.
Make it a Cure day, here are some some songs you might know along with some of my personal favorites(**):
