From a RunTex.com article...

The British Olympic Triathlon team has been training in Austin for the past week. Guess Austin can simulate the heat of Beijing, but fortunately we can't supply the same level of expected pollution endurance athletes will have to suffer at the Olympics. How bad is the air in Beijing? The equestrian events are being moved because of health concerns for the horses.

I'm a big fan of the Olympics, I really REALLY can't wait!!

I'm also very intrigued about the behind the scenes reports we'll see. I remember vividly watching the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, Korea on TV (forget if I was in Mexico or Sweden that summer), and a report from a journalist that went just a stone's throw away from the Olympic village. S/He was showing local open air markets where german shepherds and other cute live puppies were in metal cages and were being sold for human consumption.

mmmm... nothing says international/western tourist magentism like eating cute dogs. Wonder what I'll see this time.

I wonder if anyone who moves here ever drives by Petsmart and sees the adoption day / rescued dogs out front and gets flash-backs from the "good ol' days"???

I'm so sorry. I really just disgusted myself, too.

Interesting how they moved the equestrian events for the welfare of the horses' but still hold the human athletic events in the midst of health destroying pollution. I would assume it's because the horse has no choice whereas any human athlete can say "thanks but no thanks!".
