This year, Kekoa is 8 years old, and now the players pitch as well, so it's really a full on baseball game. Kekoa's regular team went UNDEFEATED all season long, and won the league. Once again, he got selected along with 3 teammates to the allstar team for the City playoffs / championship.
They breezed through the playoffs winning games to the tune of 20 - 2 etc. On Monday night was the Championship game, so I went out to bring along my good luck and cheer him on. Last year Kekoa played Short Stop, and on bat, could place the ball pretty much anywhere in the outfield to help his team accordingly. This year, he started out on the mound, and threw his league-allowed 39 pitches. He struck out several batters, and at bat, he got a hit almost every time. (I think he had one failed attempt, but that was a deep fly ball out to Right field that got caught.)
In any case, they won easily 14-2 (game was called after 4 innings due to the 10 run rule), and are now 2 time defending City League champs!!
I took one picture all night, and it was one of where Kekoa stole home plate as he caught the catcher and pitcher on the other team napping!! (It came out pretty good for a camera phone with a slooooow shutter speed / reaction time!)

I can't for next year when they go for 3 in a row at Age 9, to see how much they improve! It was already amazing to watch the exponential growth over one year, and how well these kids understand, stealing bases, base running in general, smart batting. Not to mention their celebratory skills - caps flying, big pile ontop of first base, running around like little kids who just won the world series.
Good stuff!
- Oh yeah, I ran 9 miles today on the greenbelt with Kerry and Jo Dee. Good times! -
