Water Loss

My running shoes live outdoors.
I have a scale just outside my door, right next to my "active" running shoe collection. So as I go out in the morning to get my shoes, I wiegh myself. I'm wearing precisely the same gear (1 pair of shorts) that I'm wearing when I go back and put my shoes out to dry and for destinkification, so I weigh myself after every run. It's not the most scientific approach, but it's accurate enough.

- Depending on the weekday run, I loose between 2-3lbs (0.9 - 1.3kg) of water weight.
- Last Saturday's 4 hour / 22 mile (35km) trail run, I lost 4.5lbs (2.04kg)
- Today, during a 14.3 mile(23km) run (1hr 48min) where we increased the speed (see below post), I lost a whopping 4.6lbs (2kg) of water weight. It was very HUMID OUT!!

It is important to note that I drink a ton during my runs. Anyone who runs with me knows that I stop ALL THE TIME to drink wherever possible. So even though I stay hydrated enough to finish cramp-free, I'm still losing tons of water.

(Today's weight loss total was crazy enough to ellicit this post.)

By the way:
1 Liter = 1kg = 2.2lbs
1 Gallon = 3.7 Liters = 3.7kg

So next time you non-runners see us runners at BBQs, or Parties and laugh at me/us for walking around with a bottle of water, you'll know why.

Today, I have to drink enough to keep 2 Kilos on me. I don't know how much I pee out from each liter I drink vs how much I retain, but I know I'll probably be drinking 4 or 5 Liters today, so I'm back to normal weight for the next weigh in. (It won't be live on TV, but it'll be tomorrow at 4:40am)

You can answer off-line.

There's no excuse for drinking water at a party.
