G.I.A.N.T. B. O. N. K.

BONK:
Also known as: Hitting the wall.
In endurance sports, particularly cycling and running, hitting the wall or the bonk describes the condition when an athlete suddenly loses energy and becomes fatigued, the result of glycogen stores in the liver and muscles becoming depleted.

Just when I wrote about being ontop of the world, it kicked me back down, and punched me in the face while i was lying in the gutter.

Is it a good thing that last night I couldn't fall asleep till about midnight, then woke up at 1:30, 2:11 and 3:45?
Is it a good thing that instead of being down about 4 lbs of body weight, i'm down 9lbs?
Is it a good thing that when i closed my eyes after the run, while sitting on the bench, I felt like I could either faint, or simply fall asleep within seconds?
Is it a good thing that my feet are cramping so bad that I have to get out of bed to stretch them?
Is it a good thing that while at HEB, i had to make a B-line (in a hurry) for the restrooms?
Is it a good thing that I decided to end my multi year streak of not drinking sodas, to drink a sprite and try to settle my stomach?
Is it a good thing that I got violent side stitches during the run, that forced me to walk?
Is it a good thing that I felt like my legs were beyond completely dead with 7 miles to go on today's run?

Answer: Probably not.

Is it a good thing that I'm eating two giant sammiches with Salami, Turkey, Cheese, Lettuce on Wheat Bolillos, 2 yoghurts, an avocado and my sprite?
Is it a good thing that I've had a giant water with electrolytes?
Is it a good thing that I drank two chocolate milks after the run?
Is it a good thing that I'm done with this blog post, have turned off my phone, postponed my arrival to the tailgate, and am about to go to sleep for 2.5 hours?

Answer: Probably so.

No worries. I know how to come back from this.

Good night.

The water loss thing is wierd - Tuesday I was down 5lbs in 6 miles and Thursday I was down 1.5 in 12 miles (I drank around 10oz on Thurs during the run).
Enjoy your nap, tailgating and the game!!

Your preparation for the Relays last night probably means that you didn't do your normal preparation for a Saturday run. There also wasn't much recovery time. My recent bonk keeps me focused so I don't suffer through that again. It does suck but as Wiley says, "It's a Saturday in August".

Hope you're enjoying your nap. Remember you got your miles in and that's all that matters. I felt the same way out there, I can't imagine going 16. I'm guessing this is why Sisson gave you guys a Sunday long run option...I figured this out walking back to Rogue feeling like dog shit :)
Go have some fun tailgating and drink a few beers for me.. Hill and Speed phase, here we come!!
