Go ahead, I'll let you guys win

The group I train with apparently is supposed to race a 10K in the next few weeks. I've decided to let someone else finish in the Top 3 in my Age Group this time around.

I was looking at the website Uptown Classic 10K race that's coming up, and stumbled on the awards page. I know this is borderline rude of me, but I can't help it.
The awards for the 1st place Age Group finishers is pretty cool => A gift certificate for $50 to a local shoe and running apparel store that rhymes with Pogue Equipment.

However, I can't help but laugh at 2nd and 3rd place. Having worked in the Computer Industry for over 13 years, I've attended my fair share of Conferences or trainings where some type of giveaway was given. Usually some type of office "chachkie" that has the company's logo on it. Sometimes they're pretty cool things, but most of the time, it's some cheap trinket you'd see in a black and white surplus catalog. Clearly, someone raided the marketing closet for 2nd and 3rd place prizes this year! So all you competitive runners, you better run hard to get 1st in your Age Group or else...

Jimmy, tell them what they've won!

Well Drew, let me tell ya!! Second place gets this exclusive 2GB USB Memory Stick!
Note: on www.Woot.com you can get two 4GB memory sticks for $14.99 today which means that stick has a $3.50 value.

Jimmy, what does 3rd place get!!!!

Well Drew, 3rd place gets this VERY cool, USB Snake Light. Impress everyone on the plane as you work away with your very own light on!)
(I jokingly purchased two snake fans a couple of years ago for work for $7.99 for two when the AC was kept breaking.

Drew, 3rd place wwill also get an exclusive set of Headphones! Earbuds!!!

I know, I know... Negative 50 Karma points on me. Oh well, I'll deal with it!

If you're doing 30+ mile runs now you might as well do Sunmart. And if you're doing Sunmart you might as well do the Bandera 100K.

Come to the dark side! Belt buckles are much cooler than memory sticks anyways.

i was planing on running Sunmart for the longest time, and running my fast marathon in early fall.
But things got switched up, and we're running California the same day as Sunmart.

I may run 50K Bandera in January. Depends how I'm feeling.
Sunmart for SURE in 2009.

Those are the worst prizes.

I'm passing on the 10K - crappy prizes and all.
