AT&T U-Verse - How I like it.

Back in August, I wrote about how I fired Time Warner and hired AT&T. But what I didn't do is follow up with my impressions of AT&T.

In the last week, I've had 4 people ask me how I like AT&T U-verse, including 3 in the last 24 hours, so I figured I'd post an email response I sent to one of the inquiries.

"Mike, Didn't you say you switched to AT&T for Internet and TV/Cable a while back? How do you like it?"

yes, I switched to AT&T U-verse, for both internet and TV back in early August.
I went with 200 package for TV which is essentially the same I had with Timewarner. I have an HD TV, so not sure if you do or not, but they have all the HD Channels TW had, plus a couple more.

The Internet is much more stable than TW, and I like the DVR options on ATT better than on TW.

AT&T U-verse Internet is a dedicated internet line instead of you sharing with bandwidth with your neighbors on TW. They give you a free wireless router and also hook up any desktop PC you have wirelessly as well. (No extra fee for the wireless router or PC connectors)

Overall I'm glad I made the switch, and my bill is actully $24 lower per month for essentially the same Hi Def channels and almost the exact same other channles.
There are no channels i miss (the differences were obscure channels i never watched), but I've also picked up a whole slew of "funky" sport channels that I didn't have before which are fun to watch from time to time.

Don't know how much this feature is of interest to you, but i find it nice to be able to log in to my AT&T account via AT&T/Yahoo website and access my DVR to set recordings. I travel for work, so I like to be able to record things i forgot to schedule remotely. I can even set my DVR from my iPhone! I played around with it, and the record light on the cable box came on about 4 seconds after I pressed RECORD on the websote off my iPhone. Pretty cool!

I only have one cable box, but I have heard they also allow you, if you have more than one box in the house, to share DVR recording amongst boxes, so you can essentially watch anything recorded on your living room DVR box in your bedroom (for example) that's pretty cool too!

The User Interface of AT&T (menu/guide) etc is MUCH superior to TW. Timewarner looks like a classroom project compared to AT&T's ability to search, and do a million other things.
Make sense?

(I went down to the AT&T store there off the 71/mopac/sw pwkwy mess and set it up in person. Seems like I got a little bit cheaper deal than a friend of mine and I was able to choose my installation date and time as opposed to on the web, where there is no human. Not sure if this was just luck or what, but figured I'd share all the details)

Also, AT&T doesn't have a grudge with the NFL network, and gets along with NBC as well.

Best of all, there is no contract with AT&T. I know Dish and DirecTV lock you in for 12 or 24 months, somehting I saw TW was trying to get me to do as well.

One last thing to dispell some rumours I've heard. With AT&T DVR, you can record 2 HD shows at the same time, or 4 non-HD shows at the same time. Not sure about mixing HD and non-HD, as I havne't needed to try, since I pretty much just watch HD channels unless the channel is not offered in HD, which is rare.

Hope this helps.

I love mine so far! And they are extremely willing to upgrade you and give you $$$ off your bill. I called to check on my installation time, and they ended up giving me 100 extra channels, a movie channel, and $15 off my bill for an entire year, and I didn't even complain???
