Seems like more than just a few of our RSVP's decided to not get out of bed after watching the election coverage way into the night, because the Barton Springs parking lot was unusually empty, the other runner-groups that meet at 5:30 were slim in size, the Townlake trail was pretty dead, and then I only counted a total of 7 people in the water at Barton Springs during our cool down.
Despite only getting 4 hours and 15 minutes of sleep last night, I felt strong again for the first time in over a week. Last week REALLY tired me out. I'm sure my leg massage yesterday helped rejuvenate me.
In other news:
I'm going to flip a coin to decide whether I run the EAS 10 Miler or not. Deadline to register is tomorrow at noon. Here's what has me wavering:
PROS:
- One more test race before the big one a month from now.
- Race jitters, race environment, hilly course = possibly a good test race.
- I'm expected to race it, because my coach wants me to race it.
CONS:
- I'm not excited about it.
- It's not a cheap race - $49 + process fees = $50 (even with thew super secret $3 discount code)
- I'm busy all day Saturday with the UT game being 11am-3pm, so this race would eliminate Sunday to being productive too. (Post race tired)
- I just can't see through the fog and notice anything convincingly positive about this race. I don't feel like it's essential to my marathon, as we still have 2 more big weekends of running left, and I've repeatedly tested my fitness.
- I've got quite a few major spending sprees coming up, and $50 just feels like a lot of money to spend on a race I'm not excited about.
- I'd still go get me 20 miles that weekend, and maybe even simulate race pace, but it'd be free.
After typing up these two lists, I think my mind is made up without the need of a coin! Stay tuned for my decision!

My two cents are skip the race. You aren't going to gain a ton from it- you've raced before and know what to expect.
Skip the race! Fifty bones for a lame ten mile course ain't worth it.
My word verification is andro, maybe as a hint for better marathon performance?
Ahh... who's gonna yell, "Foho, kill them!!" when I'm coming in??
My 2 cents worth - I love this race - it was my 2nd most fun race last year. It's good for a screaming fast 2nd half and you will be passing people like they are standing still on cesar chavez. Or at least that is how my race went last year. I am using the same tactics this year. If you're not into it don't go...don't want to use up your race excitement before CALI!!!
Get it done on Saturday...you can enjoy the game, sleep in on Sunday, be productive, and if you feel like donating to run for the water you can make an actual donation without having to pay for cones on Austin roads that you already run...You can EVEN run race pace on the course on Saturday!!
You are at the point in training that every positive thought and strong effort should be saved for A #1 goal day...not wasted elsewhere ;)
