Today on my training schedule was a tough Marathon Goal Pace (MGP) workout... 3 sets of 5 miles at MGP.
Ken and coach Steve were gracious enough to offer to run with me this morning. In order to stay in touch with the cool way to talk these days, I'll let Paris Hilton explain what I think of them joining me this morning:
So how was it, how'd it go:
it was Hot
it was Humid
it was Hard as hell
it was a Struggle...
but i didn't give up, and I did it.
A slow 2 mile warmup, then went out for three 5 mile loops with 34:10 as the goal, which is a 6:50pace.
Loop 1: 34:03
Loop 2: 33:52
Loop 3: 33:42
The times look stellar, but it was really rough out there. By the 3rd mile of the 3rd loop, my head was so hot, it felt like it was boiling and I even got a little lightheaded. Somehow, we cranked out a 6:31 2nd mile and a 6:19 3rd mile down the backstretch of the loop. I was never close to being in physical trouble, but I couldn't have gone another lopp at that pace. (Nashvillers, we now know exactly how you guys felt!)
My hamstrings felt a little tender after the 2nd loop, not injured or in trouble by any means, but a little twinge up where the hamstring meets the butt cheek, so something too keep nursing.
Again, big thanks to Ken and Steve for meeting me out there. Without them, I would have easily cut this into a 2 mile warmup, 5 mile MGP, and then maybe another couple miles at MGP and a warmdown for 10-12 miles at best.
It is a nice confidence boost, since odds are the weather in Stockholm in late may will NOT be anywhere close to what I got today here.

And just think...if it is 90 degrees and humid, you will have a leg up on everyone else!!
