have an HEB card that you simply swipe to the side of a monitor. The
computer recognizes who you are and a bar code scanner gun on a wall
lights up.
You take that gun and scan in all the stuff you buy in the grocery
store as you buy your Herring, your Sausage, your Swedish Fish, bag
clips, center chocolate bars and other Swedish daily delicacies.
You have your re-usable bags in the cart so you pack your bags as you
shop.
When you reach the end of your shopping you walk to a cash register on
the side and hand in your gun and your member card. At random they
may review your purchases but more than likely, they trust your "honor
system" purchases and you walk on out the door while your preferred
bank account gets charged for your total purchase without having to
stand in a cash register line for another 5-20 minutes.
This is possible in Sweden, but not in Austin, TX.

We have this at the Stop and Shop grocery store down the street from my place here in Boston. Problem with it, is that it is subject to the honesty policy and some jack ass thief is going to screw it up for everyone. Just watch!
But, we use it whenever we remember to bring out tag to the store and it is very convenient.
I won't believe it till I see the photo.
We have it in England! It's been at our local supermarket since 1999....
