This week, I'll aim for 70miles, then take a slow week next week as I will be running in a 60km trail race on Aug 29th. The race is at 7pm, so will mostly be a night race. I anticipate about an 8 hour run, but it could take longer. I've never seen the location of the race, and running at night will make it a bit slower too.
It'll be the longest I've ever run (38 miles), and I'm not looking to shatter any records. It's the third of a 3-race series and looking at the results from the other 2, I see a couple of names I recognize. 1 guy ran Bandera 100km last year in a time that is close to my goal for this year, and another guy ran 22 minutes slower than I did at Bandera 50km last year. What does this mean? Well, in an unscientific way, it means I could possibly finish top 5 if I don't crater completely.
The race website description:
This trail has been voted in Texas Highways Magazine as one of the 10 most scenic trails in all of Texas. The course consists mostly of rolling single track with minimal service road, while meandering through oak/pine forest and large open meadows. There are a few small streams to navigate if there has been rain, and an occasional vista of Inks Lake or Falkenstein Castle. The trail can be technical and windy in spots, which is particularly demanding at night.
I should be done by 3 in the morning, which means a nap till sunrise then a nice 2 hour drive home.
it'll be fun to run this so i know what I feel like after 60km, since i'll then just need to train to build up the ability to run another 25 miles (40kms) more by January! (Essentially another marathon)
It's gonna be fun!
Who's with me!?
