Dance like no one is watching

One of the best things about the Human brain, is how certain current
events trigger memories and visions of your past. You may not
remember all the details, the characters in the memory may not be
fully correct, but the images are etched into your brain, and the
overall storyline is unforgettable.

I remember when I was a kid, maybe 5, maybe 8 years old?, and I was in
our summer house in Sweden. We used to have this rocking/swing couch.
It was a big metal 3 or 4 seat couch, that hung in the air by a big
white metal support frame with a shade canopy cover. It came with comfy
flowery pillows and cushions we'd take inside every night, only to
return them back onto the swing-couch the very next morning.

My grandma loved sitting in/on it on a warm summer day, my sister and
I asking her to rock it to a fro as we joined the fun.

In Sweden, you take full advantage when Mother Nature gifts you
reprieve from blustery grey days, and I remember we'd set up a table
we'd painted yellow, a few predominantly red or blue striped folding chairs and a
green, hard metal and wood armless chair, around the rocking couch spending countless hours around it, eating meals there if weather permitted.

One of these times, a big and heavy rain cloud appeared and the debate
on whether it would be a light sprinkle or a heavy rain ensued.

The droplets of water started coming down and mom, dad (and maybe even
my aunt?) grabbed any perishables and the cushions in their yard
chairs and went inside while Grandma, my sister and I stayed put, out
of the elements protected by the canopy of the rocking couch. As the
rain got stronger and stronger our laughter kept pace, and before you
know it, this light sprinkle had turned into torrential downpour. I
was quite young and probably a little exhilaratingly scared, but
nothing can harm you when under grandmas arms!

I remember mom and others staring at us from the windows as we laughed
and laughed, now stuck on this floating couch-island while cats and dogs splashed down around us.

Sometimes life allows you to step away from reality and revert to
those youthful moments. Sometimes a silly challenge of outlasting a
good friend or two turns into a game where getting soaked in the rain
as everyone else seeks cover is all you need to feel like a kid again.

Sure, people probably looked at us wondering why we were still out in
the rain, but as far as we were concerned, we were dancing like no one
was watching, and boy did we have a great time.

the word "lovely" is very condescending to swedes that hold hands while dancing around a mid summer post, or hopping around like frogs in a circle with both their hands on in handcuff position.
for that reason, I will also not tell you about the swedish songs about foxes scratching the ice, and when i was forced to wear a giant white cone on my head and a white sheet as a robe, during a christmas celebration.
