I filled out my form I got in the mail and sent it off. Granted, the deadline was yesterday, and I threw it in the mailbox after 12:30pm yesterday so it will not get picked up until today. Hopefully they accept it. I can't imagine how a Government, that delays every single project I've ever been privvied to in my professional career won't accept my form.
Anyway, that's not the point here. The point is, I read that if I fill out the form and mail it in, it costs them 44 cents to process EACH FORM RECEIVED.
If I don't fill it out, I get put on the list of people they must physically visit, which costs them $57 PER HOUSEHOLD visited.
Now here's the thing, I've sold Internet software for a long time. I was surprised, if not shocked to see tat there was no option to log in to a website, type in my identifying barcode number, and take care of it all online. I bet the cost PER HOUSEHOLD that would have chosen The Internet option would have been less than 22 cents.
We are in 2010, not in 1970, 1990, or even 2000. There really is no excuse for this.

Census bureau estimates they could save $ 1.5 Billion in follow up costs if everyone sent in their census. I hear so many people citing inane reasons for not sending it in. But the best way for now to help govt reduce cost is to send it back. Maybe next time around they will figure out that Internet thing.
