The Kinetic Web

My doctor, shared this image with me. It was within a rather large document she shared with me that describes the philosophy behind the strategy her and I are taking to fix my left leg's IT Band.  In a nutshell, it's the theory of the Kinetic Web, and how one ailment is affected by many other things. Hence why she seems to have taken a particular like to torturing my back, and specifically all along the right side of my spine.  Good times.    It's not as simple as this image, nor does this image describe my particular problem, but it paints the overall picture quite well.  I go again on Monday.

One of you asked me recently what I'm doing to strengthen Glutes, Quads, Hammies, Abductors etc.  I outlined a whole bunch of exercises I've been doing in a prior post.  I continue to do all those in addition to one legged squats, assorted other things and core work every other day. I have to be a little careful tho, as she is adamant about me not doing things that inflame the IT B.  Squats tend to do that, so I take it somewhat easy.  If anyone would like to hear more, a simple phone call, lunch, dinner, breakfasts are much better suited than this blog!

Some of you have asked what race I'm going to train for. At this time, it's easier to tell you what races I had planned to possibly partake in  but had to scratch (either just get the mileage or to race (after sep 15 due to a bet)).

Past scratches:
  • The 3 captain Karl's 60km night trail races over the summer.

Future completely scratched ideas:
  • Palo Duro 50 mile or 50km (Oct)
  • Mt Masochist 50mile (Nov)
  • Cactus Rose 50mile Late (Oct)
  • Rogue's 2 Fall trail races (Oct/Nov)
  • Northface 50km or 50mile (in SF early december)
  • Bandera 100km (jan)

Races at risk of being scratched:

  • San Antonio marathon (official pacer) (Nov)
  • Colorado Springs Fat Ass run (winter tbd)
  • Bandera 50km (jan)
  • Rocky Raccoon 50mile(feb)
  • Austin Marathon (feb)
  • Boston Marathon (April)
  • Grand Canyon return (May)
  • Moab trail adventure (?)
  • some other trail runs of yet to be determined distances

But I still see a light at the end of the tunnel, so this should not sound like doom and gloom!
: )

Now get out there and run a mile for me!

Keep up the good work. My gluteus mediua is perpetually tight, right side only. The pigeon pose is the only thing that even kind of stretches it. It is a real pain in the ass, seriously.
My problem is that I don't roll enough.

Thanks DJ!
Not much improvement at all.

Spoke to a specialist today who told me she expects it to take at least 4 more months, so no Boston.
