This week is the first week since June 8 that I have felt like somewhat of an "athlete in training". It's the first week that I have done something every day, (with decent intensity in most cases). I know it's only Friday 6am, but it's been exciting enough of a week to write something, and I also already know what Fri-Sat-Sun will look like.
Back to the pool:
- She is unfortunate, which makes me fortunate - Wendy was diagnosed with a stress fracture in her heel, so she reached out and asked a few questions about Aqua Running. To me that sounded like a perfect invitation to start working out in the pool again!
Running:
I've also slightly improved my running ability. I'm far from being healed, but, im up to running 40-45 minutes pain free on the trails. The trails have rolling hills and that feels fine, but I've noticed that long flat sections are not good. Then again, the loop I have been doing feature long flats towards the end, so many that is just coincidence.
I haven't been back to the doctor in over 2 weeks. I do need to return, I just can't seem to fit it in to my schedule. Here's this week:
Monday- 1 hour trail run + core work
Tuesday- 1 hour aqua run. (Hard workout)
Wednesday- Yoga, core work, then lunch time trail run.
Thursday- 1hour15 hard aqua run (Hard workout.)
Still to come:
Friday- Trail run + core work
Saturday- 2 hour aqua run + breakfast buffet(ha!)
Sunday- 1 hour trail run
At some point, I should go run the roads for a while and see if I can last 45 minutes of flats without pain. But that sounds so boring to me. If I'm only getting to run 4 times a week, then I'm going to make sure I enjoy my runs, and the greenbelt and it's trails not only are fun to run, but also provided my brain and great escape from everyday life and rejuvenates me. Plus, Karma loves the trails so much, I can't see why I'd switch.
Long term goal: get to the point of being able to cross the Boston Marathon finish line. I am definitely not going for any time records. I just want to cross the finish line, no matter how long it takes me. Even if I have to run walk it with the back of the pack.
Happy running!
Sidenote: it's funny/interesting how skeptical Wendy was about Aquarunning when she first reached out. But she has been a machine in the pool.
She did a workout on her own on Monday, and shot me a note saying something like: "wow. I totally kicked my own butt today. And then I was so hungry I ate everything in my pantry."
At yesterday's workout, which was the hardest "ladder" workout I know of*, she said: "I'm gonna come out of the pool faster than when I was before. I have never worked out this hard on a track workout.". Hahah
*Ladder: (all without belt unless noted)
8 times 1min at 95% effort - 30 second recoveries
2 times 2.5min at 90% effort - 1 min recoveries
1 time 5min at 90% effort - 2 min recovery (with belt)
2 times 2.5min at 90% effort - 1 min recoveries
8 times 1min at 95% effort - 30 second recoveries
Kicked our ass!
