I love all of them dearly, and I don't mean this in any negative or hateful way, but seriously... the way they act like salvation is finally upon them and they've had a horrendous few months and look forward to that 2.5 months of summer break they absolutely need to recover and return to sanity is quite laughable to anyone with a year-round job with deadlines, manual labor, client proposals, heavy travel, a shitty boss, a quota - all with just 2 weeks vacation.
An added bonus is when they act like complete-and-utter-armageddon is upon them because they had to work 2 additional days before their

I know you don't mean it negatively, and neither do I...
Having experienced both types of work, I can tell you that salvation is indeed upon them and they have had a stressful few months. They experience the similar things as you, but then at the end of the day don't get to 'turn off' the job...there's grading, report cards, dealing with the mental/emotional stuff of being caregivers, parent issues. Oh, and they don't get paid even close to what you make.
Snow days suck because you can't really do anything on the snow day, the students typically come back a bit 'crazy' because they are off schedule, your planning for the week is off, and that is one less day before the state tests that you have to prepare them. The fact that it eats days of pleasant weather summer and prolongs the anticipation is just an added negative.
I'd take your work issues over being a teacher any day of the week and all summer long.
Giggling at teacher friends' summer vacations is kind of like criticizing Boston Marathon Women's cutoff times. Why? Walk a mile in their shoes first. :)
Ok, i see your point, and bleieve me, they've explained it to me too.
Now, how about I say "i find it cute to hear..." instead of I laugh...
; )
I hope they reload so they make our children smart and good citizens next year too.
Oh man, it is a sad, sad time for our schools, I fear. It is super scary to hear everything going down.
You can say whatever you want...your blog :). You can say you laugh. I bet you roll your eyes on the inside, too :). I would roll my eyes and laugh if teachers got paid three times as much as they do right now and if their class sizes were small enough to make the workload more manageable. Until that day, they can moan and whine all they want in my book.
I don't roll my eyes. Just snicker a little quietly inside, but yes, I do know they have tough times.
and maybe they should make more... but i'm not opening up that can of worms. only the cuteness in imminent salvation. ; )
