When: 5:30am, Tuesday, Aug 22
Distance: 1.7 mile warm up, 5 Mile track workout, 1.7 mile cool down = 8.4 mile workout. WOW.
Time: 1 hour and a half total. (38min track workout.)
Company: Performance Project group.
Weather: Humid, humid, humid. Did I mention it was humid?
Comments: I had a revelation* during the run from the Annex to Austin High.
The workout itself was the same tough workout we've done a few times before: different speed variations for a total of 5 miles, or 20 laps around the track(8kms). My legs are so tired right now, I don't think I'm going to leave my chair until it's lunch-thirty. And for lunch, I'm going to drive home, and nap on my couch for 45 mins. (Oh yeah, except for that mid-quarter review I have with my boss in
Why did I do this to myself on a schoolday?? I guess because everyone else did it too.
The 'white kenyans' as I like to call them, were wearing their speed demon shoes (or maybe those were rollerblades, i'm not sure, but there's no way someone can be that fast). They lapped me several times. Maybe even as many times as 3 or 4! But I did good. My speeds kept getting faster and faster (as intended) and my last 300m at superfast-5k pace was superlightning fast. Not as fast as the 'white kenyans' that run in my group, but pretty darn fast... like 5min30 sec / mile pace! (300m in 1min2secs = right about 5min30sec/mile) YEAH!!
Now about that revelation. I'm not a soup guy. I like clam chowder and I like tomato basil soup, becase they're kinda thick and you can throw crackers in the clam chowder, and eat the Tomato Basil with tons of bread. Other than those, I pretty much only like Tortilla Soup. I mean, who doesn't like tortilla soup?! Anyway, while we were running our 1.7mile warm up to the track, it was hot, humid and pretty darn nasty out. I was drenched within 4 mins of running. And it dawned on me. I felt 'warm and slicky', the same way that watery soup feels in my mouth. Warm and Slicky. [Slicky® MW2006 all rights reserved]
So there you have it. I don't like soups, because I run in hot and humid Austin, Texas at 5:30 in the morning.

Whoa - I'm sorry but "slicky" was my word first. As of 2003. Look it up.
kidding.
good word. great run. kudos!
Sweet!! 5:30 pace you rock.
Do you remember the pace you were at the first time you did this workout?
Man am I nervous about my adventure into the PP world for 6 whole months.
Congrats to you!
Well, pace is hard to gauge at the speeds I run. I mean, I've pretty much gone from Galactic speed, to Lightning-fast.
