Nowadays it's rare when i get all excited about typing up a blog post. Today was one of those days! Why? Well, I found a little piece of heaven, and I’d like to invite every one of you lazy butts to discover it too. Sunset Valley Farmer's Market is my new heaven. I'd hear about it for a couple of year's just never made it over there.
I recently wrote about my plan to become a Full-time Tomato grower, and how grocery stores arguably have the most disgusting Tomatoes ever. This morning, I decided to go check out the competition I would potentially have.
The few farmers who had tomatoes were busy as heck and their tomatoes were flying off the table. $2.50 for a little basket of cherry type tomatoes, $3 for a basket of the big ones.
Other farmers selling $1 bushels of Basil. Yes! I said One friggin dollar! Go to Heb and they’ll give you 25% of what you get at the market for $3.49. Thievery I tell you.
Anyway, I was loving it, and I bought way too many things. I even bought some fresh local honey; some Sun Dried Tomato Pesto; a purple, a white, and an orange Bell Pepper; Basil, Tomatoes, Kettle Pop Corn, 3 different squashes, and two big heads of Lettuce! I'm lucky I was able to contain myself because I almost bought much much more.
The Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday, rain or shine from 9 till 1pm. (Although I have a hard time believing any of the great tomatoes will be around if you get there past noon.) It’s in the parking lot of Burger Stadium, off 290/71 just past Brodie Lane, and right before you get to Central Market south. Let me tell you, I’ll have stiff competition, the tomatoes I ate as soon as I sat down in my car were just like the ones I grew. But I could make some serious side money TODAY, if I started this. As I was pulling in to the parking lot, there were a good 7 cars infront of me pulling in, and just as many behind me. As I left the place, I couldn’t pull onto the frontage road for a while, so I counted the cars that were turning into heaven. I counted 17 cars before I was able to pull out and get on my way. That place is fantastic!
Next time I’m in line behind you at the grocery store, don’t be surprised when you look at the ugly face I’m making as I see you unload Tomatoes on to the Cashier's conveyor belt. I’m going to make it every time until you stop buying crap.
