Fires and Weather

For those of you that have heard about the Austin fires that are wondering what is going on and if I'm ok... yes, several fires all over Austin and surrounding towns due to our exceptional drought, and now heavy winds. But none are no where near my home. However, several friends have been evacuated out of their homes and don't know how their homes will fare. Preliminary reports say up to 300 homes burned out in Bastrop (35 mins east). (a great park i run in has burned. they say about 50% at this time.) Another neighborhood lost two homes (I lived in this one in 1999-2003). Another one, Steiner Ranch last 40 and counting. The winds are so strong and everything is so dry that they can't contain the two big ones. Bastrop and Steiner. Here are two photos from the bastrop fires viewers shared with KXAN.
Here's a cool map i found that you can use regardless where you live in the US. It is currently set up for Austin and the fires surrounding, but on the right you can choose all sorts of other stuff, and move the map to your home. If you're curious on what's happening in Austin and our fires... visit www.kxan.com or www.kvue.com or www.weareaustin.com Enjoy your labor day weekend. Cool weather finally hits Austin tomorrow with weathermen promising 57 (with 45% humidity) in the am, so you better believe that I'll be out there running tomorrow! I ran 21.25 on Saturday, and 10 this morning. Hoping for 12-14 tomorrow. I'm pretty sure the weather will make that easily acheievable after running in 78-95 and huge humidity!
