18 mile LAB - 5 laps of fun

Those who read this and are runners will find this little loop familiar.

It's so much fun. A 3.5 mile loop around Shoal Creek, Foster, Great Northern and White Rock.

And you get to run around and around and around!

First loop is a warm-up 27.5min (7:52min/mile), then the fun begins… Try and keep your Marathon Goal Pace for 12 miles. Or, 4 more loops. Should I tell you how dull it is to run the same 3.5 mile loop 5 times, or do you just want to trust me?

I didn't click my watch on every mile marker, so I don't have them all, but here are the 9 miles that I did keep track of:

7:04, 7:12, 7:09, 7:22, 7:05, 7:17, 7:34, 7:13, 7:16

Those times look fun and nicely assorted, except the problem is, my goal pace was 7:24, and I only got close on 1 of those. Most other laps I didn't somehow keep track of were also fast. How do you know I'm not lying on my splits? Including the 27 min warm-up at 7:52 and a slow ass final 2 miles at 20mins… I ran a 2hour 12 min for 18 miles whch is an average of 7:33.

Better be fast than slow, but now I've been asked to seriously re-consider my marathon goal, as certain coaches out there think that I can run faster than my current Mike 3:15 goal.

I'm not a coach, nor do I play one on TV, but my $0.02:
focus on your goal: BQ. Don't mess w/ being tempted by 3:10 or whatever, while nice that wouldn't "get you anything" that BQ doesn't.
Leave a goal for next time: sub-3 in your next marathon ;-)

I happen to think you can run much faster than 3:15, but see how you feel on marathon day. If you feel great and your splits are a little fast, so be it. As long as you are trying not to actively push the pace, I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised.
