After Saturday’s race I was feeling pretty good, no major aches or pains, and no signs of slight cramping, which means my hydration strategy worked very well for this race.
Sunday morning I made plans to run the greenbelt with Panther at 8am. Karma, Panther and I set out down the powerline, then did the 8 mile loop Kerry and I have done the last few weeks. However, I switch things up for him, and added another mile to mile-and-a-half or so, by not cutting up the Z, and instead running up Cedar Chop. This easily adds a mile if not a mile, and quite a bit of time, as there are numerous more hills.
Karma did great for the first 6 miles or so, but slowed after that. A combination of heat and lack of energy I’m sure. But he was happy to be out there, and both Panther who ran 11 miles the day before and my weary post race legs welcomed the slower pace and the frequent stops.
All in all, a great run for just under 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Note: it’s not sufficient to mix new and old foods for just two days before excpecting a dog’s stomach to be ready for the new food. Karma woke me up 7 times overnight (sat to sun) wanting to go outside due to an upset stomach. :(
At the beginning of the week, I had a goal of 50 miles, and I accomplished that.
My plans was as follows (which I realized was bad math, so I had to up my Sunday run by 5 miles):
Tue - 10 road - yes
Wed - 4 trail - yes
Thu - 10 road - yes
Fri - easy 3 trail – ran 2
Sat - 15mile trail race – 15.5
Sun - easy 4 trail – ran 9
A total of 51 miles for the week.
This week I set out to get 50 – 55, but I’m already behind the 8-ball as I felt tired and my quads were sore this morning, so I passed on running. Here’s my new plan:
Tue – 10
Wed – 4
Thu – 10
Fri – 3
Sat – 7to10 (depending who I can find to run with. Anyone?)
Sun – 16 (Two 8-mile loops in Bastrop state park are already planned with Kerry. Anyone else wanna join in for 1 or 2 loops?!?)
Total 50-53
Looks like I probably won’t be up for a Monday run with such a heavy weekend.
