They're here and hiding amongst us

I decided to wait a few months before i posted about this. Mostly for
safety reasons.

While at my last place of employment, one of my accounts brought about
a highly profitable project (for me), but I also ended up spending 4
hours sorting 9,550 envelopes for a mailer that we were sending out at
the post office.

While doing so, I also took the time to check things out and see how a
USPS facility operates etc.

You can only imagine my surprise when I walked up to this alien
creature hiding by the cardboard stacks. (I believe this guy is from
planet Tatooine, but I'm no expert. Just remember seeing a similar
one during one of George Lucas' time travel documentaries I saw about
30 years ago)

Don't worry, I played it cool and walked right by it, then shouted out
to my colleague: "You sure you want me to take a picture of the
cardboard stacks?"

But at the very last moment, I changed the angle of the phone's camera
and snapped this picture.

I have a great-uncle who was the mastermind behind some of the sorting technology used by USPS. I've also seen it up close and personal, only at the payment processing center for SBC (now AT&T). Electronically sorts mail by size, sends it through a conveyor belt, opens the envelope, separates the checks from the envelope, inverts it to "upright" then scans it & sends amount/routing info right to the bank. Amazing stuff, really. I bet this dude in your picture had been given a name, but I suspect you were too embarrassed to ask about it.
